Can You Live Green? "Doing something is better than doing nothing!" Energy Efficiency Hybrid Vehicles Hydrogen E85 "Going green is a waste of time and money." "No one else cares. Why should I?" "It's not convenient." "It's too much work." There are just a few of the excuses we have heard over the years about why people don't do more to help the Earth we all live in. Some think the end of the Earth is soon, so it doesn't matter what they do to the Earth. That's skewed thinking, in my mind. Whether you're a Christian, an Atheist or anything in between, it shouldn't matter. No one wants to live in a garbage dump, but that's exactly how we're treating the Earth. Dirty plastic diapers? Just throw them away. Cloth diapers are too expensive and more importantly - too gross - to deal with. While they may be rather smelly, the style and design of modern cloth/reusable diapers have come a long way in the past few years. (I'll guiltily admit to using disposable in the past.) Plastic bottles are convenient. Yes, they are, but they have a long standing effect on our environment. If they aren't recycled or reused, they more than likely end up in landfills or as litter. If you must use single use bottles, try to use them more that once! Fast food restaurants? Have you thought about the amount of waste generated in all the fast food restaurants in the U.S., or even around the world? The next time you go, if you do, be cognizant or aware of the amount of garbage you walk away with (if it's takeout) or that you throw away (in the store). It's staggering. You are only one person. How many people eat in these restaurants daily around the world? Just think of all the waste! There is hope though, because there are countries that require recycling, such as South Korea. Living green is more than helping the environment - it's a mind shift, however slight, that encourages you to do what you can to make this world a better place to live and work in. You can make changes where you feel comfortable and that's okay! Some may be physically or psychologically unable to use cloth diapers with all that's involved, but feel passionate about recycling and/or conserving water and energy. Doing something is better than doing nothing! Start where you can and go from there! It's about making an effort to help the Earth and have a better place to live on this Earth!
