If We Don't Change
Now,
What Will Our Future Bring?
-
Oil and gas prices will continue to climb. While the oil and gas companies continue to make excessive profits,
the rising
fuel costs will negatively impact the
working family's wallet. This will cause even more difficultly in the
average family's daily struggle
to keep their head above water.
-
The U.S. will remain highly dependent on foreign oil and gas, especially those
purchased from the middle east. The middle eastern oil countries will
continue to influence the U.S. foreign policies (i.e., Israel) and hold us economically
hostage. Their influence will also handicap our military,
which will
threaten and weaken our national security.
-
Global warming. The earth's temperature will continue to increase and
change the delicate balance of
our climate. The
entire world, not just the United States, will have a more dramatic weather pattern
with severe results. (i.e., hurricanes, tornados, blizzards,
droughts, floods and other natural disasters)
-
Increased pollution - smog, toxic air that causes breathing and health
problems.
-
People will buy smaller cars in an attempt to save money because of the
high fuel costs. This is potentially more dangerous
(and fatal) because safety tests show that smaller
cars are less safe than their larger counterparts.
-
Reliance on gasoline engines and failure to make autos with higher fuel
efficiency will make U.S. automakers even less competitive in
the global automotive industry. U.S. manufacturing jobs will be
reduced (layoffs) and the gap will be broadened between useful, productive
jobs (manufacturing, tech development, etc.) and non-productive jobs
(lawyers, realtors).
What Could
Happen If We Change and Invest More
In Developing Renewable Sources of Energy?
-
Reduce gas prices
dramatically.
Competition will exist between clean energy sources and
fossil fuels. This will help the working class's
energy bill which will then increase their disposable
income. The U.S. economy will be competitive in
the world and there will be more prosperity.
-
Independent from overseas oil,
the U.S.
can be more effective in it's foreign affairs policies
and national security.
-
With a switch to renewable energy sources,
the land will remain
beautiful for future generations.
The current
frantic demand for oil and gas will be diminished along with the unnecessary
hurried razing
of the ground to drill wells. There will be an earth for our children's
children to enjoy.
-
Decreased pollution.
By using a
cleaner energy source it will help keep people
healthier, and reduce the amount of smog in the air.
-
It will help dramatically
slow down the effects of global warming.
By planting trees, and leaving them to replenish the ravaged forests,
they will
help renew the areas on earth that were destroyed.
-
Larger vehicles that
are fuel efficient
(preferably using alternative
fuel/energy sources)
can be developed,
therefore creating a safer, and more comfortable driving
environment.
