Conservatives

If we switch to green energy, many conservatives believe they will have to drive tiny (sub-compact) foreign-made cars.  This is a false belief put out by some conservatives, speakers like Rush Limbaugh and is completely untrue. Many vehicles on the market today, and in the near future, are now trucks and SUVs.  These vehicles have plenty of room, power and style but more importantly, they are helping reduce the dependence on gasoline as well as decreasing greenhouse gas pollution. 

Conservatives need to realize that if we develop more vehicles with renewable sources of energy like E85 and electric cars, it will reduce the pressure on gas supplies.  Alternative fuel sources (like electricity) are much cheaper and more efficient than gasoline.  What will happen? Gas prices will drop as the demand drops. 

Another benefit, is that can also help slow down global warming.  Many conservatives feel there is global warming, but keep denying the reality.  By switching to alternative fuel sources, you will be able to drive larger, more powerful vehicles with less gas reliance and minimal damage to our environment.

Liberals

Don't think going green is having to completely change your lifestyle.  Liberals think conservatives are the enemy of global warming and are a big part of the problems involved.  It's natural for people to want to drive bigger cars and SUVs and not have to squeeze into a smaller vehicle.  This is not just a comfort issue but a safety issue as well since smaller cars are more prone to be involved in fatal accidents than their larger counterparts.  The bottom line is that with the new technologies available (and green energy), current lifestyles can be maintained. That is, maintained without damage to the environment. 

Extreme protection of the environment will cause more damage than good. It will further alienate conservatives and there will be no agreeable solution to the energy problem.

Solution

Both parties need to unite and agree that development of new technology for renewable energy is necessary.   They need to change the way they think (partisanship) and come together to encourage the further development of renewable energy sources. Before we can reduce our reliance on foreign fossil fuels, the United States' elected officials need to help pave the way.  Solar panels, wind energy (turbines) and even E85 are better than fossil fuels alone. 

It may be expensive to implement the changes, but isn't it more expensive to destroy our earth?  Our earth is not renewable.  Once we ruin it, it's ruined forever.
